Geauga County Department on Aging Social Workers recognized as 2025 OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program) Team of the Year
Chardon, OH, June 17, 2025-The Geauga County Department on Aging Social Workers received the 2025 State Award for OSHIIP Team of the Year from the Ohio Department of Insurance, Division of Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP).
This prestigious recognition highlights their outstanding partnership with the Ohio Department of Insurance and their exemplary service providing Medicare beneficiaries in Geauga County initial and ongoing Medicare counseling. Through one-on-one counseling and community outreach, our Social Workers empower older adults with unbiased, reliable information to help them make informed decisions about their health insurance coverage.
In 2024 alone, the team conducted 218 appointments, helping individuals understand their Medicare options, avoid unnecessary costs, and gain peace of mind. Their efforts in 2024 saved Geauga’s seniors $128, 876.84.
The Geauga County Department on Aging’s Social Workers are trained by the Ohio Department of Insurance “Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program” to answer Medicare questions. Social Workers are available to meet one on one to provide Medicare information throughout the year.
During Medicare Open Enrollment (October 15th through December 7th annually), three months prior, or up to three months after your 65th birthday; Social Workers can assist with plan comparisons for Medicare Advantage Plans and Part D Prescription Plans. Year round they are available to assist qualifying seniors to apply for financial assistance for their Medicare Premiums, Co-Pays, and drug costs.
